Exercise 2: Apertures
Lecture:
Morning began with Mr Vinod giving us an quiz to do though our phone.
After the test we bincang about our answers during class, I understood most of the things he said. So know i know more detail about aperture than i did before.
Mr Vinod asked us to memories the main stops of apertures. Which are-
- F 2, F 2.8, F 4, F 5.6, F 8, F 11, F 16, F 22
- Other stops are called 1/3 of a stop.
- Every 3 clicks is 1 stop.
After lecture we had to continue with Mr Vinod's exercises to study the effects of aperture.
General Instructions:
1. Use a subject that is repetitive in nature.
2. If you are using a zoom lens keep it fixed at 50mm.
3. When you mount the camera on the tripod don’t move the framing till the exercise is concluded.
4. The focus must be at the same point from the first image right till the last. DO NOT ADJUST IT!.
5. Keep a record of the settings for each image shot.

Exercise 2A Instructions:
1. Take several pictures with different aperture and shutter speed settings.
2. Keep the ISO at 200
3. Begin taking images, starting with the lowest aperture setting on your camera (e.g. F 2)
Results of Exercise 2A:
iso 200, 1/4000, f2
iso 200, 1/4000, f2,8
iso 200, 1/2000. f4
iso 200, 1/1000, f5.6
iso 200, 1/500, f8
iso 200, 1/250, f11
iso 200, 1/125, f16
iso 200, 1/60, f22
This proves that Aperture effects DOF.
iso 200, 1/1000, f2
iso 200, 1/1000, f2.8
iso 200, 1/1000, f4
iso 200, 1/1000, f5.6
iso 200, 1/1000, f8
iso 200, 1/1000, f11
iso 200, 1/1000, f16
iso 200, 1/1000, f22
This proves that aperture effects exposure
Reflection:
Experience- During the exercise, I was confident of doing it because i understood the instruction well. It took me 15 mins to finish both exercise.
Observation- It was fun for me to do it was i did it quickly which then i could help my other friends that was struggling. By helping then it also improve my skills.
Findings-; It was interesting to see that i could finally try these experiments out because ive always wanted to do it but never really had the reason why i should do it. the results of how differences in the pictures look with different aperture settings. The importance to control right amount of light enters the lens when taking photos plays a big role to capture beautiful pictures.
Feedback: -Feedback, week 3
"Amer, the instructions are for Exercise 2a.1 & 2a.2 which is posted on FB: Aperture (in-class) Exercise Instruction is as follows: “Upon reading and viewing the material on aperture and following our discussion, we have come to agree that aperture effects exposure (Exercise 2a.1) and depth of field (Exercise 2a.2). Your problem task today is to prove the theory as fact that aperture does effect exposure and depth of field by devising a plan and acting on it. When updating your ePortfolio ensure you describe your plan before showcasing the evidence that proves the theory.” With regard to the work you posted on your ePortfolio (under instruction) the title states just Exercise 2a, but which is it? Proving depth of field or exposure? You need to mention : Exercise 2a.1 or Exercise 2a.1: Exposure. It would seem that you have proved that aperture controls and effects exposure and DOF, good work!!! --- With regard to the eportfolio it still seemed a little light interms of depth except for the findings which was good and showed some promise. Good work on the exercise, more concentration and time required when writing the reflections. The reflections must showcase two areas, what transpired in class (lecture/quiz/etc) and what transpired during the exercise. As an example of a well written reflection read Rahila's, it would give you an idea of the depth, analysis, and evaluation that takes place in her writing." - Mr Vinod.
