31st October 2014 (Week 13)

Introduction to Photography
Final Theme-Based Project

Lecture: There was no class this week due to a class trip we had to Refreshing Springs Resort.

Although there was no class Mr Vinod gave us a task to complete while we were on the trip.

"Since you are going on a trip this Friday, I would like you all to take another five pictures just as practise and attach your reflections with it for the following week as well." - Mr Vinod.

Five pictures from the trip.

- I could had gotten better photos honestly if i were to bring more equipment. My bag was already so heavy so i just brought along my camera and a 50mm from lightweight purpose. I regretted that. I should had just bring more equipment so i could experiment on more things and i could see things in a wider perspective. I really regretted not bringing a tripod. That would had been so handy.

Theme-Based Final Project (Sports- Futsal)

- I lucky enough to get a court last minute. There was still abit of sunlight so thank god for that but after 30 mins it started to pour heavy rain but i just kept shooting. I was shooting from 6pm to 7pm. I didnt mange to get that many shots due to the time and lack of ideas plus light source. Honestly not proud of this week's progress and hopefully i could come up with new inspiration and ideas for next week's progress to produce better pictures.

Lighting Exercise.

- To be honest, I totally forgot about the lighting exercise. Mr Vinod asked us to study the lighting system and how it works. At the same time we had to find studio portrait pictures from the year 1940's till the 1960's. Choose 3 pictures that we think we can re-create the picture in the photo studio in the following week. These are my 3 choices.

Experience:
From this week task, i experience that it not easy taking pictures in a place where it is really hot and sunny at the same time has lots of shade. You still want to try and get the details in the dark areas but its impossible to do it without overexposing the sky. I feel that my communication skills that i have helps me interact more with people to make them feel relax and comfortable when you say to them that you want to do a photoshoot and they are your models. During the final theme based project progression i experience to shoot in heavy rain. Its definitely a hard thing to do because when it rain you will get dark sky and very minimal sunlight. To shoot action pictures in the dark is not an easy task.

Observe:
This week, I observe that in the wild is beautiful there are so many nice things to take pictures of but a nice picture doesnt mean is a good picture. I observe that we can play with so many elements if we use low shutter. Is just the matter of learning it. While doing the final theme based project, i know i didnt get any good shots but i feel that the ones i choose was good enough. I could had done worst but when it stared raining it did gave me a few more new ideas so in a way the rain was a good thing. When i was looking for studio portraits from 1940's till the 1960's i realise that most of the model were wearing the same thing. The style back then was suit and tie and really long a wavy hair even for the men.

Findings:
This week, I find out that nature has its beauty. Im not the type of person that likes nature so much but it was really fun trying to get 5 great shots. tho 2 out of 5 of my shots from the trip had people in it. It wasnt so much of nature but the point was to get 5 great shots from the trip. It doesnt have to be nature or rather focus to the jungle. While doing the FTB project, i find that if something unexpected happen use it to our advantage. Dont think just because things didnt go as how you planned it, that its gonna fail. Many more "good" ideas came to me when it started raining heavy. Some of the idea worked and some did not. The whole point of photography is to keep on shooting and only stop till you feel satisfied with the picture you took. Then again, the next picture you take might be better.
